Our Center

Our Mission:

To provide adolescent girls with the support and services needed to promote human dignity, self-esteem, independence, and ultimately a successful future.

Our Vision:

To take part in the Grand Challenge of ending all trafficking of minors.

Taking Back the Girls is the first of its kind. We are a non-profit organization that is an ALL-IN-ONE center for services adolescent girls need. Our focus is on ensuring that adolescent girls in the community receive services to promote respect, independence, and a successful future.

A study conducted by the CSG Justice Center found that juveniles were far more likely than adults to re-offend across all states and counties. According to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, over 8,100 juveniles were arrested in South Florida in the past year alone. Services are lacking for adolescents in Miami-Dade County all around, but mostly girls.

Nowadays with social media ruling our youth, many young girls are losing sight of morals, values, self-worth, and opportunities outside of the social media world such as arts & sciences. Taking Back The Girls' staff have combined a multidisciplinary approach to how we instruct adolescent girls.

We are always looking for volunteers, interns, and donations of all kinds.

Our Methods for Support and Services:

What do we mean by multidisciplinary? We mean that our curriculum doesn’t just focus on one area. This is because we focus on the Systems & Family Systems Theories, Empowerment Theory, and the strengths based approach. Taking Back the Girls services work to have all systems come together to provide wrap around services and support for success. Our center specifically works on adolescent wrap around support, necessary skills through group work, mentorship, family supports, and provides referrals for outside resources the whole family may need. We build on strengths and encourage positive reinforcement, so they can believe in themselves on their way to accomplishing goals.

Taking Back the Girls works to provide services the community needs. Our outreach staff conducts surveys to the community to continue to provide truly needed services.

Many families live in areas where they are unable to see marketing or advertisement of resources available to them; our staff works to fill this gap. Yes, we do focus on teen girls but staffs’ motto "if we know of resources in the area to help the whole family why not just refer them too?".

Our Workshops:
Taking Back the Girls offers various trainings/workshops and guest presentations in a variety of areas listed below. Groups will be 12 weeks, there is Phase 1 & Phase 2. The topics will change day to day to allow participants to get a full range of insight in all areas for a successful future. There is Phase 3 for those participants that have completed Phase 1 & 2 and come back to assist in facilitating, intakes, mentorship, and community service. We understand every youth is unique and can offer services for a shorter term and specific services needed; please contact us to discuss this further.

The perfect candidate for groups are:

Girls between the ages of 11 and 17,

                Struggling with self-esteem/self-worth,

                Lacking positive peer relationships,

                Engaging in unhealthy relationships,

                Engaging in sexual promiscuity/activity,

                Skipping school, fighting,

                Getting suspensions and/or detentions,

                Lacking support,

                Acting out,

                Needing Independent Living Skills.

Human Trafficking Prevention:

Being that Florida is the 3rd highest state affected by Human Trafficking in the US, we understand how important prevention methods on this topic are. Human Trafficking is a multi-billion-dollar industry that affects our youth, mostly from age 12 to 17. Study's have shown that youth are learning about trafficking through movies and television which do not depict accurate information. TBTG is focused on lowering the amount of youth involved in trafficking through prevention methods while increasing awareness throughout the community.

              Here is how:

                     -Awareness Talks/Presentations

                     -HT Prevention Workshops

                     -Prevention Presentations

                     -Survivor Mentorship

                     -Survivor Motivational Presentations

                     -3 Day Workshop Presentation

These presentations are hosted by Motivational Speaker & Sex Trafficking Survivor Gloria Martinez, MSW as needed. If interested in having a presentation listed above at your school, business, retreat, or other type please contact Gloria.Martinezpd@takingbackthegirls.org
